Dear Cynthia,

I’m very excited to have you come to our community and do the Lazy Leader Road Show workshop. You are an amazing speaker and I know our folks will love you!

I do have a question…

Can we change the name of the program from The Lazy Leader Transforms America – One Volunteer at a Time?

I don’t think people will get Lazy Leader. How about something like Volunteer Management 101?

Looking forward to having you in my home town!

Excited Leader

My response to Excited Leader…

Dear Excited Leader,

The title of the workshop needs to stay consistent with all the other stops – otherwise it does not look like a tour.

(Did you see the description I put up at http://www.LazyLeaderRoadShow.com )

I met with a variety of PR experts and marketing folk in determining the title…

The Lazy Leader part is a “Huh?” factor – and will get media’s eyes.

Transforms America needs to happen and appeals to those who want to make a difference.

One Volunteer at a Time! Helps clue people into how we are going to do it.

The goal is to get as much attention as possible for the program you are hosting so the room is packed with local leaders – and as a side benefit for more people to be aware of your organization.

Does that make sense?

We’ll be revving up our PR machine as well end of July/early August to start spreading the word.

Our goal is to make being a Lazy Leader (not martyr leader) irresistible so more volunteers will get to enjoy being involved in your community in meaningful ways.

(If you didn’t get the my Lazy Leader book, you can see some of the approach explained in the free download chapters at: http://www.chapterleadersplayground.org/?page=LL_Sneakpeek )

Hope this helps you understand the why behind the answer.

(We are doing a marketing training program for local hosts on July 21st as well. We’ll be recording it and posting audio in case someone on your team can’t make it live.)

Here’s to transforming America together!

Cynthia

Decided to answer main ones here.

How much does it cost to be a local host team?

Each team is contributing $300 towards my travel.

I am waiving my normal speaking fee for this event.

You will also be responsible for getting a room that holds 100+ volunteer leaders, AV and perhaps some of your promos.

You have the opportunity to make this back with the door charge of $10-19/person.

We are a local nonprofit with a tight budget. Why are you charging us $300 to bring the Road Show to our community?

Normally it would cost you several thousand dollars to bring me in to speak at your event.

I’m waiving my normal speaking fee to host teams because I believe by helping to build strong chapters we will truly transform America.

The $300 is to help defray costs – and to make sure you have some skin in the game too.

Plus, with three chapters or nonprofits working together as a host team that’s only $100 each. You’ll easily make the money back with registration fees.

Why can’t we charge a larger registration fee? I know a lot of people who would love to hear you – and you are worth a lot more than just $19. My chapter could make a lot of money!

The goal of this event is to bring leadership training to as many local leaders as possible – our goal is 5,000 in ten weeks.

Not to make your host team a lot of money.

That said, even at $10-19/person, the more leaders you get in the room, the more you will make.

Why do we have to charge anything?

People who pay nothing to attend tend to drop out last minute.

They have no skin in the game.

Show rates for free events tend to be closer to 50%.

Even $10 makes a big difference in attendance.

Your goal as a local host team is to have 100+ people in the room for the training.

This will help you reach that number.

Who gets to keep the registration fees?

That’s up to you and your local host team partners.

We are not asking for anything from you beyond the $300 travel contribution.

You will be asked on your application to be a local host team how you plan to divide up extra revenue.

This is to help you all be on the same page from the get go.

Hope this helps. If you have more questions, let me know.

Cynthia
