Looking for Members of Your Local Host Team

Cynthia the cheerleader   I’ve had a few people contact me asking for help in creating their local host team.

  • They want to be part of the Lazy Leader Road Show.
  • Got support from their chapter.
  • But don’t have any other chapters in the area to partner with.

Now what?

  • Don’t give up.
  • There are tons of leaders who need this help.
  • And future volunteers who are looking for trained leaders.

Let’s work through an example of how to identify potential partners together.

About your chapter – let’s pretend…

  • You focus on early childhood education.
  • Your members work with very young children.
  • You’ve got about 35 members  so your partners need to be able to bring attendees to help reach 100 attendees.

When looking for potential partners, it’s easiest to start with your core – who do you know?

  • In this example, we might target parents of very young children.
  • Where do you find them?
  • PTAs, Day cares, Playgroups, Churches, Neighborhood groups, etc.

Next, what about complimentary groups who have similar  missions?

  • Perhaps early education advocates such as some Junior Leagues and Kiwanis Clubs?
  • What about a early baby care groups like the ones who teach young moms how to take care of babies?
  • How about groups like United Way or YMCA?

Another angle might be to look at groups who run in tandem with your members?

  • Many of your members run childcare facilities.
  • Who are their suppliers? Who works with them?
  • Are there local chapters of associations of building managers, landscape architects, nurses, CPAs?

It’s easy to find several potential partners if  you get creative in your thinking.

  • There is no one right way to find the right partners.
  • Any combination will work – the training will be designed to help anyone who works with volunteers.
  • As long as you agree to your big picture of what The Lazy Leader Road Show will look like when it comes to your community, you may be fine.

Tomorrow, we’ll explore finding potential partners in different ways for another local chapter.
